Restore Christchurch Cathedral

The Restore Christchurch Cathedral group have prepared information to distribute to all 250 delegates attending tomorrows Anglican Synod meeting.

The information package will includes an open letter to the Bishop and chapter pleading the case for halting deconstruction until deeper consultation has been undertaken on the options for restoration. The dossier will also include the statement from over 100 expert engineers who believe it is technically feasible make the building safe and restore it ‘to its former glory’. Other information is presented on the importance of restoration as a positive unifying project for the city. Spokesperson Mark Belton said it is important that delegates understand it can be restored, and with the known avenues of funding support cost is not an issue. Only a very small portion of the cost needs fall on the church. Belton also said that providing high engineering standards are met it international insurance cover would be available. In addition fully recovering the glory of the building, making the building safe is of paramount importance. The Restore Christchurch Cathedral group wishes for the church to lead the restoration in collaboration with the government, CCC, and the citizens of Christchurch.
