Kaiapoi to Trial Prohibited Access Signs

CERA and the Waimakariri District Council will soon begin trialling ‘Prohibited Access’ signs on Crown-owned properties in the North East Kaiapoi Red Zone as a response to residents’ concerns about safety and security.

The trial aims to find out if the presence of signs on vacated properties recently acquired by the Government will act as a further deterrent for petty or opportunistic crime and assist emergency services and utility providers. Circular delivery companies will also be asked to stop delivering to the selected properties.

Signs clearly indicating the status of the property and prohibiting unauthorised access will be placed on a group of approximately 120 Crown-owned properties in parts of Charles, Jones, Jollie, Sewell and Beswick Streets.

Residents are urged to contact either CERA or, if urgent, the Police if they see any suspicious behaviour.

The trial will last for four weeks.

CERA together with the Council and the Police will then evaluate results to see if it would be helpful to implement this approach for all Crown-owned properties in the residential red zone throughout greater Christchurch.
