Wellington Opens its Doors to Residents… Again

Wellington Open Day is back and offering yet another golden opportunity for residents to get to know their city.

A behind-the-scenes tour at Downstage Theatre and a safari of the seal kind are just some of the activities available to Wellington’s residents as part of Wellington Open Day.

The event, which this year sees over 20 of the city’s visitor attractions open their doors for a gold coin donation on Sunday May 27, is organised by Positively Wellington Tourism and aims to help familiarise Wellingtonians with what the capital of cool has to offer.

PWT Chief Executive David Perks said the initiative was a huge success last year and is expected to be the same in 2012.

“Last year, Carter Observatory saw their second biggest day ever – with some 1200 stargazers, while ZEALANDIA welcomed 2800 guests through its doors and close to 2000 people visited the Cable Car Museum.”

Mr Perks said not only is Wellington Open Day a great way to engage locals with the visitor industry, it also helps to create absolutely positive ambassadors for the city.

“Wellingtonians are our word-of-mouth marketing army and it’s really important we keep them across what our visitor sector has to offer.”

Attractions are open from 10am-5pm on Sunday May 27 and many are running special tours or value-adds throughout the day.
