Brook Waimarama Sanctuary Trust welcomes new trustees
The Brook Waimarama Sanctuary has added some
high powered business acumen to its board of trustees, as it
moves ahead with its vision to become New Zealand's richest
conservation environment for visitors, education and
research.
Board Chair David Butler said the Trust Board had gone through a period of evolution.
“Several long-serving trustees who had played significant roles in getting the project started have stepped down and they have been replaced by people with the particular skills and experience needed to oversee the Sanctuary’s development as a sustainable entity,” he said. . d spent the last year increasing capacity and adding depth to its leadership team.
“The addition of these new trustees is another strong indication of the Trust’s maturing to a new level of sophistication and ability to deliver on our ambitious and exciting vision of a pest-free fenced wildlife sanctuary on the doorstep of Nelson.”
The new trustees are Eugene Crowe, who was a principal at WHK New Zealand Nelson (formerly West Yates); Terry Horne, who was Company Secretary of Sealord Group Ltd until 2010 and now serves on a number of boards, including Nelson Tasman Tourism and the Nelson Bays Heritage Trust; John Hambleton, who is an aviation consultant and has been Project Director for Air New Zealand, CEO of Air Nelson Ltd and CEO of Eagle Airways Ltd; and Jane Peterson who had a career as a corporate lawyer in Wellingtonwith Bell Gully and as a commercial manager in the corporate sales division of Telecom New Zealand.
They join current trustees Derek Shaw, Alastair Wiffen, Chris Hemi (iwi representative), Dr David Leadbetter and Rod Witte (DOC representative).
Sanctuary General Manager Hudson Dodd said the revamped board was an energy boost to staff and volunteers.
“We’re all excited to have this new energy and capability on the trust board, and the staff are keen to work with the new trustees as we move forward with fund raising and master planning for a fenced sanctuary.”
The new trustees joined the board between
late last year and this month. They replace out-going board
members, who steppeddown at last year’s annual general
meeting after completing their terms or moving on to pursue
other responsibilities and opportunities. The Trust
expressed its gratitude for service to Sharon McGuire, Bryan
Hardie Boys, Moetu Stephens, David Marriott, and Nick
Dalgety. A vacancy remains on the board for an iwi
representative.
