Hague Road Joins Hamilton City's Road Map

Hague Road Joins Hamilton City's Road Map

Hamilton has a new road.

Hague Road is the main road into and out of the Waiora Waikato Hospital campus and is named after a man who left a big hole in the staff of Waikato District Health Board’s Building Programme Office.

Brendan Hague’s road sign was installed this week directing patients and visitors to Waikato Hospital off Pembroke and Selwyn Sts as the main through road for the hospital.

At the time of his death in August 2011, Mr Hague had been a Waikato DHB (and its predecessors) staff member for 42 years and was a key person in the $430 million Waikato Hospital Building and Redevelopment Programme.

His Building Programme Office family today gathered under the road sign feeling very proud of their mate.

“It’s excellent having Hague Road as a landmark for way finding rather than having to find Gate 1 off Pembroke St,” said Building Programme Office project manager Ian Wolstencroft.

“Brendan was the master of all things infrastructure – he had an encyclopaedic knowledge of Waiora Waikato Hospital campus, so it is fitting that the road be named after him.”

Mr Wolstencroft said Hague Road would eventually appear in the Navman system as well as on Hamilton City maps.

The Waiora Waikato campus map can be found at http://www.waikatodhb.health.nz/ under the ‘Find us’ heading.

“Waikato Hospital’s face is a changing one thanks to the massive building and redevelopment project that is taking place here at the moment, but you will always find an up-to-date campus map on our website so be sure to access it,” said Waikato DHB Media and Communications director Mary Anne Gill.
