PRESS RELEASE: “AIL provides death cover to SAFVPN”.

South Auckland Family Violence Prevention Network (SAFVPN) has negotiated with American Income Life, a free accidental death cover to members of their organisation and also community members who support DV free initiatives or have experienced domestic violence and child abuse.

Manager of SAFVPN Raewyn Bhana says that she and her board had been in discussions with management of AIL in Auckland for some time now and was pleased that both AIL and SAFVPN Board had signed the deal. Approval had to come from the AIL Head Office in the USA. "In order to receive this benefit people are required to join SAFVPN so in a way its not free but is a benefit of being part of this 20 year old support organisation" she said.

This comes days before the Matariki Candlelight Vigil which SAFVPN is coordinating with NZ Police, Child Youth and Family and other agencies and is being commemorated on Mangere Mountain this Thursday 21 June 2012 at 6am.

The vigil will open with Hon Dr Pita Sharples Minister of Maori Affairs, Superintendent John Tims of Counties Manukau Police and Auckland Regional Director of Child Youth and Family Services, Grant Bennett. David White who is the father of murdered women Helen Meads will also be speaking at the vigil.

Over the past 5 years, more than 100 women and children have been killed through Domestic Violence or Child Abuse. This cover which is being provided through SAFVPN by AIL is at no obligation and no cost and will assist members when they are in need of it. AIL has also contributed to the vigil as well.

This Matariki Candlelight Vigil is open to the public and starts at 6am on Thursday 21 June 2012 and following the commemoration a breakfast will be held at the Mangere Community Hall on Mangere Mountain.
