73% of Queensland taxpayers
want to pull out of V8 Supercars
Auckland Councillor Cameron Brewer says after 22 years of a Gold Coast motor racing event, a recent opinion poll done by local newspaper The Courier Mail reveals 73.86% of the nearly 5,000 local voters don’t think the Queensland State Government should continue to fund the Gold Coast 600 Supercar Carnival.
“This is the same outfit, V8 Supercars Australia, and it’s a well-known event, but local taxpayers have clearly had enough and the Newman Government is now actively looking at pulling out,” says Cameron Brewer.
“We’ve been sold a story of huge economic gain but across the Tasman, three-quarters of taxpayers polled in Queensland now want to back out and put their money elsewhere. This poll, done just two weeks ago, is a big worry and shows that perhaps these events don’t deliver as much as promoters promise,” says Cameron Brewer
