A free sausage sizzle with live music will be held to raise awareness about the siege waged on the people of Glen Innes and to bring the residents and wider community together for a family friendly afternoon of solidarity, at 2pm in Glen Innes.
Families and long-term residents of Glen Innes are resisting the Tamaki Transformation Plan that brings about the destruction of a strong community that many have lived in for over 40 years.
In solidarity with the Glen Innes community, Aucklanders from other parts of the city are gathering to support their struggle. Sarah Hosking, one of the organizers of the street party, said, “this kind of injustice and havoc Housing New Zealand is wrecking on Glen Innes will not be just Glen Innes – it will spread to other state homes.”
“Housing New Zealand is intimidating residents to force them out of their community and it is for nothing but further privatization. This is the frontier of the fight against asset sales.”
The street party starts at 2pm outside 14 Taniwha Street, Glen Innes.
