News Release – for immediate use

Trust Community Funding Round Opens

An important reminder to all community groups who wish to apply for funding through the WEL Energy Trust. Applications for the 2012 Community Funding Round open on Wednesday 1 August 2012.

Since 1993, the WEL Energy Trust has distributed around $55 million to a wide range of organisations for projects that benefit people and communities within the Trust's district. The Trust has allocated $2 million to the 2012 funding round.

WEL Energy Trust Chairman Mark Ingle said that “The Trust is pleased to invite funding applications from not for profit organisations that are working in the community within the Trust's district. This round we are urging groups to spend more time considering our criteria and how they help to make a difference in the community, by making it a better place to live. We are looking to maximize the Trust’s investment in the community by supporting groups who are creating things to do, providing support, improving safety and well-being, all in a sustainable way. Applicants who demonstrate these priorities clearly will help us in making good decisions for the community."

Groups who have received funding in previous funding rounds are eligible to apply again in August, provided that they have completed the accountability requirements from all previous funding received.

Applications for the 2011 WEL Energy Trust Community Funding Round open on 1 August 2012 and close at 5pm on Friday 31 August 2012. Organisations can expect to be advised of the outcome of their application in late December 2012. Funds will be made available to successful groups in mid January 2013.

Application forms can be obtained by calling the Trust office on 07 838 0093, or downloaded from the Trust's website – www.welenergytrust.co.nz. Applications can also be made online.
