Independent Fisheries Charter carries out rescue
Independent Fisheries charter vessel Ivan Goluebts has made an emergency dash from Lyttelton Harbour and is alongside the stricken Amaltal Columbia 85kms off the Canterbury Coast and taking on board the 43 crew from the burning vessel.
Mark Allison, general manager Independent Fisheries, said their charter vessel was just coming into Lyttelton Port at 5.30am when they received the mayday call.
"Our vessel is alongside the Amaltal Columbia now and crew are being ferried in liferafts across to the Ivan Goluebts. Their safety is paramount," he said.
