Stand up comedy comes to Newtown

2012 Billy T Award nominee, TJ McDonald returns to Wellington helping to launch the capital’s newest comedy night, Comedy Monthly at The Office Bar and Cafe in Newtown.

Comedy Monthly is a professional comedy night held on the last Thursday of each month, starting on September 27 at 7pm and as luck would have it, TJ is down from Auckland that week.

“It’s great to have TJ involved in the show. He’s a great performer and even though he is based in Auckland now, he is a great supporter of Wellington comedy,” says Ben Caldwell, the show’s producer.

There are currently over sixty comedians of varying experience in the region and Comedy Monthly is designed to give those who have made solid progress at Raw Meat Mondays an opportunity to gain a paid performance.

“There’s so much interest in stand up now and we have many new performers starting out. This show is about giving people a chance for more stage time and longer sets, and a different type of audience,” says Ben.

The show is approximately an hour and a half long and will feature four comedians doing 12-15 minute sets and former Billy T nominee, Jerome Chandrahasen, is the resident MC. Entry is just $10 on the door and students who bring their ID will also receive a free pint of beer. Thursday nights also feature The Office’s $15 super jug deal on their Monteiths range.
