Performing Arts (Heat 1) will be on Oct 7th 2012 and Music (Heat 2) on the 28th Oct 2012.

Heat 1 & 2 will have six finalists each. Each act has a maximum 5 mins each to perform. There will be a semi-final at the Waimate North A & P Show on Nov 10th 2012 from whcih we will have three awesome acts for each category going through to the finals. There will be cash prizes for the semi-finals. The six finalists will perform at the annual Be Free Family Day Out, main stage, held on Sunday February 24th 2013 at the Domain, Kerikeri. Each category will have a 1st prize of $250 and a Peoples Choice prize of $500 will also be given to the most supported act. Participants could win up to $750 if they won both prizes. Please note, if you are a professional musician you cannot enter this competition.

My Best Friend Pet Walk

The Special Needs Educational Resource Library Charitable Trust is holding its first annual My Best Friend Pet Walk. There are two walks – 3.5kms or 7kms. At the completion of the walks at 2 – 2.15 there will be a guest judge on site judging six different categories. People can even walk with a photograph of their pet at home either cat, bird, goldfish etc.The Pet Walk will commence at 10am from the Paramount Plaza, Wanaka Street, Tikipunga. There will be some stall spaces available at the Paramount Plaza and time spaces available for entertainment, these have to be organised prior to the event by phoning the following number.

Coastal Classic Yacht Race

Prestigious and challenging, this yacht race is regarded as one of the world's classic yacht races. The biggest race of its type in New Zealand and inspired by speed record attempts dating back to the 1920s, it is a race pushing boats and crew as hard as they dare. Yacht's begin racing on the Friday morning from Devonport, Auckland. The Duke of Marlborough Hotel (Russell, Bay of Islands) will be open through the night for supporters, and to welcome the first boats to the bar. Party on the Saturday evening and prizegiving on the Sunday morning, both held at The Pub on York Street.

Whangarei Lions Open Day

Join Northland’s iconic tall ship at the Whangarei Town Basin for an open day on board this beautiful gaff rigged tops’l schooner. The Whangarei Lions have arranged for the ship to be open to the public as part of their fundraising activities, offering people the chance to go on board.
Members of the crew will be teaching traditional marlinspike knot tying as well as showing people how to make a Turks Head ankle bracelet. It’ll also be a chance to have a guided tour below decks and for the more adventurous to clip on a harness and climb the rigging.
There’ll be entertainment and sausage sizzle on shore, spot prizes and activities for all ages as well as albums on display showing the ship building, and some of the highlights of the R. Tucker Thompson’s adventures.

Lise and Colas are in love and want to marry. However, the Widow Simone wants Lise to marry the dim-witted, but extremely rich, Alain, and has arranged (with Alain’s father Thomas) for a marriage contract between Lise and Alain. The Widow Simone does her best to keep Lise and Colas apart, but is unsuccessful in her attempts to do so.

Bay of Islands P&I Show and “Savouring the Source” Food & Wine Festival

This November will be the 170th anniversary of NZ’s first P&I Show. The Show started back in 1842 close to the site of the Waimate Mission House and is still going strong today, with many of the original pioneer families still involved as competitors, organisers or with the local community.
The Bay of Islands Pastoral & Industrial Show and Savouring the Source, a Northland food & wine festival, combine to stage a great day’s entertainment. Traditional events include equestrian, livestock, calf club, sheep and pet lambs, small animal tent, dog trials & trade displays, demonstrations, colourful food stalls, wood chopping competition and live entertainment with talent quests for adults and children. Hotly contested are all sections in the Exhibition Hall, where special guest Jack Hobbs will be a judge and later give a seminar.

In a giant marquee, Savouring the Source showcases regional food products, local wine, cafes, artisan food producers and restaurants. The day includes the finals of Kids Can Cook, a Northland Wine Association wine options competition, and cooking demonstrations from NZ Beef & Lamb’s ambassador Brenton Lowe and celebrity chef Paul Jobin.
The final event of the day at 3:30 is the grand parade where prize winners in the equestrian & livestock event parade with the latest in farm machinery. A time-honoured rural spectacle!

State New Zealand Ocean Swim Series - Paihia Classic
