Gardeners' guide to spuds and tomatoes
8
October 2012
Spuds and tomatoes are hot topics for
home gardeners in springtime – and they will be the focus
of a free workshop at Hollard Gardens, Kaponga, on Sunday
(14 October).
Workshop topics will include:
• The
best sowing, maintenance and care techniques to achieve
healthy yields.
• A discussion of different varieties,
and their advantages and uses.
• Plant supports and
growing methods.
• A homemade remedy to help fight off
blight – learn a special recipe that has restored greying,
blighted tomato vines to vitality.
The event will run
from 2pm to 4pm and participants are encouraged to bring
seed to swap.
Sunday’s workshop is part of a year-round
programme of free events at Hollard Gardens, Pukeiti and
Tupare, the three heritage gardens owned and managed by the
Taranaki Regional Council on behalf of the people of the
region.
