Public meeting on Rena environmental monitoring

Public meeting on Rena environmental monitoring

One year on from when Rena oil washed up on Bay of Plenty beaches, Rena Recovery will present initial environmental sampling results from along the coastline.

This Thursday 11 October, Rena Recovery will present the first results from winter sampling. A number of kaimoana species have been tested including tuatua, pipi, pāua and kina. The final results, expected in April 2013, will provide information on what has happened to ecology in the Bay for all habitats.

Professor Chris Battershill, Waikato University Chair of Coastal Science, is leading the research team known as Te Māuri Moana, which includes academics and students from University of Waikato, Bay of Plenty Polytechnic, Te Whare Wānanga o Awanuiārangi, University of Canterbury and Manaaki Taha Moana.

The presentation will be given by Professor Chris Battershill and Professor David Schiel.

When: 7.30pm, Thursday 11 October.
