‘Your Power Team’ launches ‘Time for a Change’ AECT Campaign

Voting papers in the Auckland Energy Consumer Trust 2012 election will come out on Wednesday. YOUR POWER CANDIDATES, Glenda Fryer, Richard Leckinger, Tim McMains, Chris Olson and David Shand, supported by Green and Labour MPs will be telling the world why voters in the Auckland Energy Consumer Trust elections should reject the current C&R trustees and vote for the new team on the block.
Be at the grassy bank opposite the Vector/AECT offices, 101 Carlton Gore Rd, Newmarket at 12.30pm on Wednesday, 10 October to hear short speeches from supporters and have the opportunity to question the candidates.

The team is well-qualified to act as trustees responsible for the community owned energy asset Vector. Glenda is a former City Councillor, Richard is a renewable energy expert, Tim a financial manager and company director, Chris an electricity industry engineer and David is an international financial management consultant who was a member of the Royal Commission on Auckland governance.

“YOUR POWER TEAM candidates are standing to bring accountability and transparency to the work of the Trust. We will stop the gravy train of high trustee fees and consultant spending; work with Vector to maintain a good dividend; make sure energy is affordable and sustainable for future generations of Aucklanders”.

Notes:

The Auckland Energy Consumer Trust (AECT) owns 75.4% of Shares and Voting rights in the lines company Vector Ltd. The Trust holds elections every three years for 5 trustees to be responsible for the management of the AECT on behalf of its beneficiaries, the electricity consumers of the AECT area in Auckland.
Those eligible to vote are the power bill holders in the old Auckland City and Manukau City areas and in parts of Papakura district. Voting documents will be posted on 10 October 2012 and have to be returned by 5pm, Friday 26th October 2012.

‘Your Power Team’ is a 5-person community ticket supported by the Green and Labour parties and community organisations within the area.
‘Your Power Team’ is committed to:
- stopping the trust selling off any more of Vector
- continuing to pay the annual power dividend cheque
- slashing high trustee and consultant fees
- ensuring AECT Trust transparency and accountability
- promoting power savings

All 5 current trustees of AECT are members of C&R, a National and ACT party backed ticket. C&R has had effective control of AECT since 2003, helped by extremely low voter turnout - just over 16% at the last election in 2009. The C&R trustees oversaw the sell-off of 25% of Vector in 2005 despite an election promise to keep Vector in full public ownership. They have paid themselves over $1 million in trustee fees over the past three years.
