$3.35 million Building Fund For Te Totara School
Te Totara Primary School secures $3.35 million in a significant new building programme to support students.
Te Totara Primary School, located in the fast growing Rototuna suburb in Hamilton, has secured $3.35 million in funding from the Ministry of Education.
The school which opened in 2008 has seen considerable roll growth, from 58 students to the current roll of 521. The new facilities will enable the school to cater for 750 students.
Features of the new construction are 10 classrooms, 2 special education classrooms in conjunction with Hamilton North School, additional car parking, easier access to and from school and infrastructure to support the growth of the school.
Board of Trustees Chairperson Iain Ings comments ,"This is the culmination of twelve months of detailed planning by the whole Board of Trustees in conjunction with the Ministry of Education. This secures a permanent solution for our school growth and meets the needs of students, staff and community to continue to focus on Teaching and Learning."
Principal, Brian Sheedy, is delighted with the future developments, stating that the forthcoming buildings "allow for the further addition of exciting modern facilities to meet our children's needs. Also pleasing to see is the forthcoming partnership with Hamilton North School, with positive liaison already in place."
Hamilton North Principal Tony Kane is also pleased with the developments. ”We are looking forward to working in partnership with Te Totara School to provide a 21st century purpose built learning facility for special needs students in this community”.
Planning is well underway and it is expected all building developments will be completed for the beginning of the 2014 school year.
