Public meeting on the closure of the Upper Hutt Courthouse
Public meeting to be held regarding the closure of the Upper Hutt Courthouse
The Honourable Chester Borrows, Minister for Courts, will be attending a public meeting to discuss issues raised as a result of the closure of the Upper Hutt Courthouse.
Upper Hutt, 2 November 2012 — A public meeting is to be held regarding the closure of Upper Hutt’s Courthouse on Wednesday 14 November at 12.00 pm. The closure, which was announced on 3 October, has raised several questions in the minds of the public and community leaders about how the change will affect the community as a whole and what process was put in place to affectively assess the ramifications of the decision.
The Upper Hutt Cosmopolitan Club, at 11 Logan Street, will host the meeting in which the Honourable Chester Borrows, Minister for Courts, will personally attend and take time to talk to the Upper Hutt community. The meeting has been initiated by His Worship the Mayor and the Upper Hutt City Council Chief Executive, Chris Upton, following their recent meeting with the Honourable Chester Borrows.
There will be an opportunity for the public and those directly affected by the closure of the Courthouse to discuss the issues with Mr Borrows, and how they can move forward.
Representatives from the Ministry of Justice will be present to discuss changes that will be taking place to the Court system following the recent review such as modernising court services, changes to the courts networks, and how services will be delivered in the future.
Upper Hutt Mayor, Wayne Guppy and City Council Chief Executive, Chris Upton will also attend the meeting.
