Dunedin
International Airport purchases local
garage
Dunedin
International Airport Limited (DIAL) has purchased the
Momona Garage and Service Station. The purchase will settle
on 31 January 2013. For commercially sensitive reasons the
purchase price will not be disclosed.
DIAL CEO John McCall has provided assurance to the local community about the future of this facility.
“We recognise the importance of the garage and service station to the Momona community”, Mr McCall said, “the garage will remain open after 31 January and we will continue to evaluate options for on-going operations.”
“Options currently being considered by DIAL include employing staff to operate the service station and workshop areas, leasing out the total business or a partial lease on the workshop.”
The service station will remain under the Gasoline Alley Services brand. Current owners Keith and Shirley Ruthven have been operating the business since the 1980s and Mr Ruthven does mechanical servicing and repairs, issues warrants of fitness and services rental cars. The service station is a convenient fuel stop for people who are returning rental cars. It also offers car storage and a shop which sells convenience items.
"Strategically this purchase is important to DIAL and the local community and we consider ourselves very much part of that community," Mr McCall said. End.
