Prepare for glorious Summerdaze

New Year’s Eve spectacular firework display

The forecast is for a summer of entertainment as the ninth annual Summerdaze Festival programme is announced.

The festival, which runs from 31 December to 31 January, once again offers a jam packed calendar full of exciting summer activities to keep locals and visitors fully entertained over the extended holiday period.

Queenstown arts and events facilitator Jan Maxwell says all the old favourites like the Tea Dance and the Teddy Bears Picnic have returned along with an exciting new event for the younger set, the Pyjama party in the Library.

“We’re expecting a lot of interest in these, after all what child wouldn’t want to come along to the library after hours with a blankie and teddy for a kid friendly evening of entertainment, hot chocolate and stories,” Mrs Maxwell said.

“The Pyjama Party in the Library promises to be an evening to remember in both Queenstown and Wanaka.”

She said people would also be keen on an old event reformatted, with TomTom Outdoor Cinema returning to the event calendar, this time at the Red Barn at Remarkables Park.

“People love the idea of watching a movie under the stars and being able to watch the sun set behind the Remarkables before the movie starts up will make for a truly idyllic experience,” Mrs Maxwell said.

The festival features around forty events this year and will launch on New Year’s Eve with celebrations and fireworks in both Queenstown and Wanaka.

The Summerdaze calendar is now available online at www.summerdaze.co.nz and copies will be delivered to all households in the Queenstown Lakes District in early December.
