Botany East Tamaki
Get On Your Bike
The first of 3 community bike paths was recently opened at East Tamaki Primary School. The genesis of the project came from research undertaken by the Owen Glen Family Foundation on projects in the Otara and surrounding areas that will lead to a safer and healthier community.
Having project managed annual segments of the pathway in the Rongomai Park development on behalf of the Local Council Board, the Rotary Club of Botany East Tamaki Inc had the experience required to help bring these new pathways to life. Working closely with Peter Mcglashan, Sport & Wellbeing Director for the Glen Family Foundation, Past President Ewen Brunskill coordinated the efforts of Rotarians and our key contractor, Cary Brown to have the first track ready for its launch day within 2 weeks of starting the physical side of the project.
The project comprises the bike path itself, a secure converted shipping container to store the bikes and of course, helmets for the kids. Apart from managing the track construction, the rotary Club of Botany East Tamaki Inc also contributed financially to the cache of bikes & helmets. Club President Mike Jaggs " would like to thank The Warehouse, Variety and the Lois Daly and June Grey trusts for their valued assistance."
Club members attended the official Opening of the Cycle track at East Tamaki Primary School on Tuesday 11th december. The Track was opening ceremony was led by Peter McGlashan, with a Karakia said by Waikare Komene from the local Maori Community before the ribbon cutting.
Work has also started on the groundwork for the second Bike Pathway adjacent to Rongomai School.
The Rotary Club of Botany East Tamaki meets Monday
nights 6:00 for 6:30pm at Celsius Gastrobar, Corner of
Ormiston & Te Irirangi roads.
