HKETO Lights up Christchurch Chinese Lantern Festival

The Hong Kong Economic & Trade Office (HKETO) for Australia and New Zealand, is proud to support the inaugural Christchurch Chinese Lantern Festival to be held this weekend.

This year’s Lantern Festival will feature HKETO’s large lantern display of Hong Kong’s famous skyline.

“The Chinese Lantern Festival is a unique event in Christchurch which showcases traditional Chinese culture and the fine art of lantern-making. It truly complements Hong Kong’s reputation as Asia’s arts and cultural hub,” said Steve Barclay, Director of HKETO.

“Hong Kong is keen to promote the arts and get people excited about Chinese culture so we’re delighted to participate in this year’s festival,” said Steve Barclay.

“Visitors will get to appreciate the intricate lanterns made specifically for the festival, the musical acts as well as plenty of authentic Chinese food.”

Traditionally, the Lantern Festival marks the end of Chinese New Year celebrations. Lanterns are released into the sky as a symbol of letting go of past woes and worries.
