Manurewa Youth To Have Say On Unitary Plan

Media Release: Manurewa Youth Council 25/03/2012

Manurewa Youth To Have Say On Unitary Plan

The Manurewa Youth Council (MYC) is calling all youth to have their say about the recently released Auckland Unitary Plan. This plan will become the rule book for the development of Auckland over the next 30 years and will have its biggest impact on young people who will inherit Auckland in the years to come. The aim to give youth an understanding of what the plan is about and how it will affect them and encourage young people to engage in the consultation process.

The forum will be held at the Te Matariki Clendon Community Centre and will have free food, a DJ, guest performances and speakers along with a large number of giveaways which the youth council hopes will attract youth from around the Manurewa community to engage in discussions. “After the amazing turnouts at last year’s forums and the amazing discussions that have occurred we are expecting this to be the best forum yet”, says acting chairperson Meliana Ngata.

“We are expecting youth to be interested in the topics that the unitary plan raises and we are going to make sure they understand it so they can have their say on the plan during this critical submission phase. We are going to ensure this forum is lively and youthful and make sure that not only are important topics discussed but that the youth also have a fun day within the community”

“The MYC put the Unitary plan at the top of our priorities for this year as it will influence how our community and Auckland will look in the future, so we need to make sure that the youth, the leaders of tomorrow, have their say now on what their future community will look like” concludes Meliana Ngata

The forum will be held between 12 PM and 4 PM on the 13th of April.

Speakers will include Angela Dalton, Chair of the Manurewa Local Board, Simeon Brown, Member of the Manurewa Local Board and others.
