Nelson Energy Team Trust rallies support for new initiative.

Following last week’s announcement of the launch of the Nelson Energy Team and their new initiative to bring cheaper power prices to the consumer through collaborative buying power, the trust continues to rally support.

The group has confirmed that Neville Male, president of Nelson Grey Power, has been appointed as a trustee, Mr Male says, “In the last week there have been several news stories about rising power prices affecting communities around New Zealand. I believe the Nelson Energy Team has created an opportunity to do something that can make a difference not just to Nelson, but nationwide, and I am pleased to be a part of this”. Mr Male confirmed that he felt sure the large membership of Nelson Grey Power would be supportive of the trust’s initiative.

Chairman of the trust, Nelson Mayor, Aldo Miccio has confirmed that the next step is to garner support from large organisations throughout the country. They intend to approach the national bodies of Grey Power, Local Government New Zealand and regional Chambers of Commerce, asking for their support in informing their members, ratepayers and businesses about the details and benefits of the scheme and how to register an interest. Mr Miccio says, “The key to success for this scheme is in the power of numbers. We’re pleased with the interest we’ve attracted so far, but we still need as many people as possible to sign up. We also want to get the message out that the scheme is not just for residents of Nelson, but a nationwide initiative. Which is why we’re approaching large national organisations to help us get the word out there”.

Alex Reith, a trustee of the Nelson Energy Team, has confirmed that registrations so far have come from all over New Zealand, the trust is keen to encourage this national response, he says, “We’re appealing to people that have already registered to share the website with their friends and families throughout New Zealand, using social media, an email or a phone call, we really need the public’s support to make this scheme a success. If we all band together we can do something positive towards getting a better deal on power”.
