Auckland’s 2nd Youngest Local Board Member
to be Sworn in Today
The Manurewa Local
Board is set to swear in Simeon Brown to the Board today
after the resignation of former Chair Daniel Newman in
December of 2012.
At the age of 22 Simeon Brown will be the youngest member of the Manurewa Local Board and the 2nd Youngest Local Board politician in Auckland.
“It is a huge privilege to have been chosen by the Manurewa Local Board to fill this vacancy between now and the October election,” says Manurewa Local Board member Simeon Brown.
“As the inaugural chairperson of the Manurewa Youth Council in 2012 I bring a range of experiences and skills to the Manurewa Local Board and represent a demographic which is currently not represented around the table.
“While I bring youthfulness to the Board, I also bring experience. I have also been involved in a range of other community organisations, including the Clendon Residents Group, the Manurewa Business Association, and more recently the creation of a ‘friends of the waterfront’ group in Clendon to build pride in our waterfront after recent fires which have devastated areas of our beautiful reserve.
“My focus over the next 6 months is to be accessible to
all members of the community, to hear their concerns and to
be focussed on the issues which matter to them, such as the
Unitary Plan which the community is currently being
consulted on,” says Mr Brown.
Simeon Brown will be
sworn in at the Manurewa Local Board’s monthly business
meeting which begins at 6:30pm tonight. All members of the
community are welcome.

Profile
I have lived in
Manurewa for the last 10 years with the majority of that
time spent living in Clendon Park. I am originally from
Rotorua where I was born, and moved to Manurewa in 2003.
My passion for the community of Manurewa has developed
over this time. My involvement began in the Clendon
Residents Group a number of years ago, where I served in the
positions of secretary, treasurer and spokesperson (a
position I still hold).
I have been involved in other
organisations including the Manurewa Business Association,
and most notably the Manurewa Youth Council which I chaired
in its inaugural year of 2012.
I have been engaged in a
number of issues through these organisations, including the
passing of the Alcohol Reform Act 2012, the retention of the
community house which the CRG uses on Maplesdon Drive, the
removal of mangroves along our coast, and for the alcohol
purchase age to be increased from 18 to 20.
I am
concurrently studying towards a Bachelor of Commerce and Law
(Honours) Conjoint degree at the University of Auckland,
majoring in Management for the Commerce degree.
