Building starts at Long Bay
The first homes at Long Bay are on their way to being built with work on the first home now underway.
Mayor Len Brown has joined members of the Hibiscus Coast & Bays Local Board and Long Bay builders at an onsite ground breaking ceremony.
The public walkway through the new wetland was also inspected, and it is anticipated to be opened in the near future. It will provide a link from the development down to the entrance bridge on Beach Road and eventually through to the Long Bay Regional Park.
“Long Bay is one of Auckland’s most desirable locations. It sits alongside a beautiful regional park and we expect demand for homes to be strong,” says Todd Property Group Development Manager Steve Martin.
“Auckland is crying out for housing. When completed, this 162ha development will house more than 2,000 dwellings and be a community of more than 5,000 people.
The mayor used a bobcat to break ground for the first home in the project’s show home street. The event comes after the recently announced Housing Accord between the Auckland Council and the Government.
“Long Bay is a development that would benefit from being included as a Special Housing Area as proposed by the Accord. It would mean the development would be consented in a faster timeframe and we could to build more houses more quickly.”
Mayor Len Brown says, “Auckland Council is focused on delivering the houses that Auckland needs. Long Bay is one of our region’s largest developments and is set to become a thriving community.
“We’re working closely with communities, the government and the private sector on where new developments should occur and how they can be built. Auckland faces a shortage of houses and we need to find ways of building them in a much faster timeframe.”
The 285m² GJ Gardner home is 4 bedrooms + study on 530m² of land. The first residents in Long Bay should be moving into their homes in time for Christmas. The first four section stages have sold out (approximately 235 houses/townhouses sites), and Todd Property will soon release three more stages for sale.
“Long Bay is an attractive option for people wanting to live close to the city, but with access to the regional park. We think people will flock to this new community,” says GJ Gardner North Shore owner Tony Houston.
“GJ Gardner is proud to be developing the first home in Long Bay. With Auckland expected to grow by a million more people during the next 20 years, we’re getting on with building the homes for them to live in.”
Development in Long Bay is expected to continue into next decade.
