Missing person located by Coastguard
Coastguard's Northland units kept busy in search for missing person
At 1340 hours yesterday Coastguard's Operations Centre was informed by Police that a young female had left Matauri Bay with minimal clothing swimming in the direction of Motukawanui Island. She had not been seen or heard from since 1100 hours in the morning.
Coastguard commenced a search immediately, dispatching Rescue Vessels from Whangaroa and Bay of Islands and their search aircraft from Kerikeri. Coastguard's search aircraft located the woman and directed Coastguard's Rescue Vessel Whangaroa Rescue to her location on a beach of Motukawanui Island, the largest of the Cavalier Islands.
On arrival Coastguard volunteers treated her for hypothermia and she was returned safely to the camp ground at Matauri Bay.
