Mt Hutt launches New School Holiday Programme

Media Release from NZSki

Mt Hutt launches New School Holiday Programme

NZSki’s Kruiser Squad school holiday programme – a three-day professional instruction course for kids aged 5 to 15 – kicks off this July at Canterbury’s Mt Hutt.

Perfect for domestic visitors, locals and Australian families, the programme runs every week in July for three days, and complements the existing five-day programme at Mt Hutt.

A three-day and five-day Kruiser Squad school holiday programme also runs at The Remarkables, while a five-day  squad runs at Coronet Peak, both in Queenstown.

NZSki general manager sales & marketing Craig Douglas said Kruiser Squad school holiday programmes were ideal for families planning their winter holiday who wanted to pack in plenty of fun for the kids.

“The school holiday programme provides a safe and fun environment and a high standard of skiing or snowboarding instruction for youngsters from five to fifteen, giving them the opportunity to ride and learn while they make new friends,” he said.

“For parents the attraction is easy – they’re free to take on the mountain at their own level and pace, or even take time out, happy in the knowledge that their children are having a great time in the care of some of the best children’s instructors from all around the world.

“At the end of the day, happy and tired kids are reunited with stress-free parents and everyone gets to kick back, relax and enjoy a great holiday.”

Kruiser Squad kids will be grouped according to age and ability. The full-day programmes have an emphasis on learning so aren’t aimed at beginners, but Level 2 skiers and snowboarders upwards. Skiers have to be at least five years old and snowboarders at least eight years old, and a healthy wholesome lunch, including gluten-free, dairy-free and vegetarian options, is included daily.

Mr Douglas said Kruiser Squads were ideal for families who made the annual family holiday pilgrimage to Methven or Queenstown.

“It’s ideal for serious skiing or boarding families who are ready to let their kids get professional training and who want to get some individual ski time or even get some instruction themselves.

“It’s also the perfect ‘add-on’ to the 10-and-under Kids4Free promotion running at Mt Hutt and up at The Remarkables where kids 10 and under receive a free day lift pass.

“The Mt Hutt and Methven offers in particular take the sting out of paying for passes, accommodation and food, so parents have some cash in hand to invest in the holiday programme instead.”

The Kruiser Club holiday programme has limited spaces so youngsters need to be registered before Friday 28th June 2013. Multiple kids can be paid for with one payment form.

Unique to the Remarkables, Parklife School Holiday Camps are designed for athletes wanting to take their freeskiing or riding to the next level but aren't ready to or don't want to compete.
Aimed at youngsters aged eight to 17, the focus is on getting ‘snow mileage’ under the belt in all mountain conditions and areas, with additional focus on correct technique on piste and transferring this to the big mountain and terrain park.

Groups will have a park focus taking on boxes, rails, and jumps.
The camps will run on from July 15 and July 22 for four days each, and will include two sessions daily and lunch. Registrations are required by Monday June 10.

Other services for children throughout the season include Skiwiland Early Learning Centre for kids aged three months to five years. Qualified Early Childhood educators ensure safe and fun childcare including playtime in the snow and a lesson for the older ones. Skiwiland opens every day from 9am to 4pm. Again, spaces are limited so it’s worth booking ahead by visiting the Skiwiland page on NZSki’s web site

“It’s all about our commitment to making the NZSki experience enjoyable and easy for families and children we’d like to see return to the slopes year after year,” said Mr Douglas.

Coronet Peak is scheduled to open for the 2013 season on June 8, Canterbury’s Mt Hutt on June 15 and The Remarkables on June 22.
