Coming together for Wairoa
Four well-known Wairoa locals will contest this year’s local government elections as a group.
The group consists of sitting Councillor Benita Cairns, main street businessman Mike Bird, community educator Hine Flood and mayoral candidate Derek Fox.
While we are all independent individuals our aim will be to bring a collective and collaborative approach to decision making on the Council.
We believe a group approach brings like-minded people around the Council table to make sound decisions that will build a positive and sustainable future for Wairoa.
The Wairoa District Council needs to provide strong and responsive leadership for the district, in what will be very challenging times for Wairoa. As a group we have long established local, regional and national networks, which we will draw on for the benefit of the Wairoa district.
We each have strong family, hapū, sporting, and community connections and together our group brings a blend of rural and urban, business and community experiences.
We intend to call on all these connections to seek ongoing advice and to support and guide our decision-making along with other councillors during our time in office.
Two of our members Benita Cairns and Derek Fox have previous Council and Mayoral experience; while Hine Flood and Mike Bird have outstanding dedication to serving Wairoa through their community involvement.
We all have a deep and unwavering commitment to the Wairoa district, which is why we have put our names forward.
Over the next few weeks we welcome invitations to meet with the ‘people’ of Wairoa as we move around the district.
