Get ready for the fitness event of the year
NZ Fitness Expo celebrates all things fitness, from Zumba and PUMA to fitness models and CrossFit.
The biggest and most inspiring event on the New Zealand fitness calendar is just weeks away.
On July 13 and 14, the ASB Showgrounds in Greenlane will be transformed into an interactive fitness heaven for the second-annual action-packed NZ Fitness Expo.
From arm wrestling and boxing to the latest international workout crazes (anyone for Bokwa?), the expo will showcase the most exhilarating and innovative ways to keep fit, healthy and active.
With New Zealand’s strongest and fittest people competing for championship titles, international fitness stars and all-you-can-handle fitness classes from City Fitness, Zumba, XLR8, X-Pole and more, the expo offers the most exciting fitness experience for everyone wanting to live a healthy, active lifestyle.
“Finally a fitness event for all of us, from beginners (including those who are just thinking about getting started) to advanced exercisers,” says the expo’s ambassador, celebrity trainer and New Zealand Warriors nutritionist Lee-Anne Wann.
“It’s an event to inspire, empower and enjoy – so much to see and do and such vibrant energy. It’s the fitness event of the year, rolled into one action-packed weekend.”
The biggest international star appearing at the expo is Optimum Nutrition sponsored IFBB Physique Pro Steve Cook (USA). On his first trip to New Zealand, Steve’s dedication for being a role model to others has seen his popularity grow across the globe.
As well as Lee-Anne Wann, Kiwi stars include reigning Australasian arm-wrestling champion Maateiwarangi Heta-Morris, Team Optimum Nutrition and Vodafone Warriors star Kevin Locke.
Six fitness-sport championships will be contested at the showground's over the weekend, all on the 5000 sq m expo floor:
• The Industrial Athletic Invitational in association with CrossFit NZ – pitting the fittest men and women in the country against each other across 5 grueling rounds.
• The inaugural NZ Amateur Boxing Games presented by Madison Sport – a showdown featuring the best Kiwi amateur male and female boxers as they face off against international teams.
• The NZ Fitness Expo Strongman Championship – seeking to crown the strongest man in New Zealand, after 8 rounds of intense competition.
• The Optimum Nutrition Fitness Model Contest powered by GoFigure Low-carb Pasta – 50 female fitness enthusiasts will compete across 2 rounds (fitness wear & bikin) for the chance to win a 12 month sponsorship/brand ambassador contract.
• The Optimum Nutrition GoFigure Showdown – the best female figure bodies in New Zealand will vie for this inaugural title. (Sunday Only).
• The NZ Arm Wrestling Invitational – the best arm-wrestlers in the country will face off live at the expo! (Saturday Only).
As well as unlimited fitness classes, expo-goers can raise their heartbeats and burn some calories with the GetRunning Fitness Expo 5km Fun Run on the Saturday morning…make sure you pre-register though.
More than 70 exhibitors will showcase the very latest fitness equipment, gym facilities, commercial products, apparel, trends, services, supplementation and nutrition, offering
exclusive expo discounts and deals.
Official apparel partner PUMA will be unmissable – in possibly the modelling coup of the year, champion hip-hop group Prestige Dance Crew will be putting the sportswear giant’s new season fitness gear to the test. Not your normal catwalk show.
Tickets cost $20 for adults, and $10 for children aged 11 to 15, with under-10s free. A Generation Iron 2 Day Super Pass is $35. The price includes unlimited fitness classes. Check the timetable to find out what’s scheduled for each day.
