Bethells Beach Scoops Top Awards
Bethells Beach Surf Life Saving Patrol was the big winner at the Surf Life Saving Northern Awards of Excellence held at Eden Park on Saturday night.
The West Auckland club picked up ‘Best Patrolled Beach’ and the prestigious ‘Club of the Year’ while two of its members, Lauren Giibs and Dave Comp won Instructor of the Year and Outstanding Contribution to Powercraft respectively.
“It is very rare that both awards are presented to the same club in the same year” says Bethells Beach Surf Life Saving President Adi Jenkins.
“This is the first time that our club has been ever won Club of the Year so it makes it even more special to us.”
Surf Lifeguards from the Far North down to Raglan were acknowledged on Saturday night at the annual awards for their efforts and achievements in Surf Life Saving.
Former international and Warriors captain Steve Price was the special guest speaker for the night and gave a heartfelt speech.
Lifeguards across the Northern Region have spent nearly 80,000 hours patrolling our beaches this summer. They have undertaken 619 rescues, conducted nearly 730 first aid treatments, taken part in 130 searches and completed 36,648 preventative actions.
