Shop more with cheaper parking
Parking in the Lower Hutt central business district now will be cheaper from Waterloo Road down High Street and Queens Drive to Laings Road, Margaret and Bunny Street.
Divisional Manager
for City Development Gary Craig said that a flat rate of
$1.50 per hour compared to the previous $2.00 first hour and
$3.00 for the second hour red zone (HC1) has now been
incorporated into the green shoppers’ zone (HC2). Parking
days remain the same at Monday to Friday, 9am – 5pm up to
a maximum of two hours.
Saturdays remain no charge although P120 time limits apply. On Sundays and public holidays parking is free with no time limit.
The
single parking zone and standard hourly charge across the
CBD is an outcome of the CBD parking review undertaken by
Council earlier this year.
‘’Parking in Wellington
can be up to $4 per hour, Hutt City CBD parking is cheaper
and starts at a range of 70 cents per hour in the Riverbank
car park and which is less than a cup of coffee,’’ he
said.
‘’It is hoped that shoppers getting more
time for their money will spend extra time in the CBD
shopping area.’’
Pay and display meters are
clearly marked in the Lower Hutt central business district.
Residents have the option to pay by coin, text or credit
card. Alternatively you can pay by SmartPark which is an
in-car meter. Prepaid cards can be purchased from the
council building at 30 Laings Road, Lower
Hutt.
