Guerilla Gardening Alive and Well on Miramar Peninsula
Guerilla Gardening Alive and Well on Miramar Peninsula
Earlier this month (July), a few keen guerrilla gardeners in the Miramar area got together & decided to establish a local community garden & orchard.
Being
supporters of the “Save Mt Crawford Campaign”, which
aims to stop the sale of the crown owned Wellington prison
property on the open market, the former prison
garden was
the obvious choice for our venture.
Our main aims
are to grow & provide vegetables, herbs & fruit for the
local community, evolve a supportive garden community,
create a nursery, & develop the site for
recreational
purposes.
As this area is commonly known as Mt Crawford, we have decided the best name for our community garden is, the “Mt Crawford Community Garden”.
With spring just around the corner, we have begun tidying up & beautifying a small area of this site, so that work can begin on preparing the ground for the planting of vegetables, herbs & fruit trees.
We have also set up the “Mt Crawford Community Garden” Facebook page, for those interested in supporting or following the progress of our undertaking.
