People with Disabilities to Take the Plunge
People with Disabilities to Take the Plunge
A group of local divers are giving Waikato residents with disabilities the opportunity to explore the world under the sea.
Dive Alive is a not-for-profit community project, currently on the hunt for people with disabilities to take part in an innovative new diving venture, which will give them the opportunity to dive in the open ocean off the coast of Whitianga.
The project is the brain-child of local diving fanatic Ihaka Purakau. “We hope the Dive Alive project will inspire both people with disabilities and the able bodied, reminding them that anything is possible. We live in a beautiful country, which is even more wondrous below the sea surface. Everyone deserves the opportunity to experience that wonder”.
The Dive Alive project will invite people with disabilities to Whitianga across the weekend of October 19-20. Gear and full training will be provided thanks to sponsor Dive Zone Whitianga – first in a local pool, followed by an open water dive.
Graeme Sinclair from popular fishing show “Gone Fishin” has jumped on board to support the project, and will be filming the adventure for the show’s next series.
Those who are interested in participating in the project should get in contact with Project Manager Ihaka Purakau.
