Back-to-Back Stakes Wins for Orbity (NZ)

The talented filly Orbity (NZ) (Magic Albert) recorded back-to-back stakes wins with victory in the Listed $50,000 Fordell O’Learys Fillies Stakes over 1200m at Wanganui on Saturday.

Returning after a six week break, the daughter of Magic Albert faced what looked to be her toughest test to date and managed to lead all the way for a half-length victory over fellow Karaka graduate Fantastic Honour (NZ) (Any Suggestion).

Orbity (NZ) beats Fantastic Honour (NZ) in the Listed $50,000 Fordell O’Learys Fillies Stakes at Wanganui.

The Festival Sale graduate, ridden by Matthew Cameron, went to the front from an inside barrier and was able to dictate the pace of the race. Nearing the 600m mark, Cameron increased the tempo on Orbity and she quickly had the field under pressure. She opened up a good margin on the field in the straight and despite the gallant efforts of Karaka Million runner up Fantastic Honour, Orbity hung on to record her fifth consecutive win.

Trained in Cambridge by Murray Baker and Andrew Forsman, the three-year-old filly won the Listed Courtesy Ford Ryder Stakes at her previous start as a two-year-old last season.

“It was a good effort to win five in a row for a young horse,” said Baker. “It was a good field on the weekend.

“She had a small break before Saturday and we will now press on to either the Canterbury Belle Stakes at Riccarton or the Gold Trail Stakes at Hastings.”

Only a small filly, Orbity’s future plans appear to be over sprint distances and her breeding suggests that will suit.

“She is a half-sister to a good sprinter that has just been retired in Brisbane, called Meet George (Rock of Cashel) who won about $400,000 over there,” commented Baker.

A winner of five races from nine starts, along with four minor placings, Orbity has now earned $84,435 in prizemoney for her owners G B & Mrs L A Morton.

Orbity is the fifth winner for her dam Jane Jetson (Jetball) who has already left the stakes performed Queensland galloper Meet George (Rock of Cashel), a 10-time winner of over A$400,000. Her sire, Magic Albert, has produced 17 stakes winners, with four Group 1 winners including the NZ Two Thousand Guineas winner Magic Cape.

Bred by Mrs L A Morton, Orbity was purchased at the 2012 Karaka Festival Sale for $15,000 from the draft of Highden Park.
