Musicians Sing Out For Kiwi

MEDIA RELEASE

2ND OCTOBER 2013

Musicians Sing Out For Kiwi

The Environment, Conservation and Outdoor Education Trust (ECOED) gears up to launch an awareness and fundraising concert with the support of Hawke’s Bay musicians.

The Concert, ‘Songs for Kiwi’ with thanks to The Kitchen Table Café is set to inform and inspire on Saturday October 19 in Napier.

With less than 1,000 Kiwi birds left in the wild in Hawke’s Bay ECOED is working to secure the population in the region from extinction. ECOED Trust was formed in 2002 by a bunch of passionate locals who wanted to take action to reverse the significant decrease in numbers. ECOED Trust members spend 4,000 hours of volunteer work a year building a core population of Kiwi in Kaweka Forest Park, raising Operation Nest Egg chicks in the pest-proof Pan Pac Kiwi Crèche and engaging school children with Kiwi.

ECOED have paired up with The Kitchen Table Café to raise Kiwi conservation awareness in the region. The owners of this retro style café gallery set in a iconic Napier building, are a passionate community minded pair, eager to promote and support good causes through their business. Café owners Cath and Shayne Jeffares believe that their business plays an important part in Napier, and they enjoy bringing the community together as often as they can for a wide range of events and exhibitions.

This highly sought after venue in Central Napier is becoming a popular place for concerts with icons such as Luke Thompson and Avalanche City playing in late October.

The Concert will showcase some up and coming Hawke’s Bay musicians. The acoustic acts get underway at 2pm with local heroes; Maude Morris, Finn Roberts, Amanda Weedon, Harry Wilson, Amy Barnard, Jess Fairey and Reearna Webley.

‘Songs for Kiwis’ is not just about music. Those attending will learn about ECOED’s role and Kiwi conservation. With interactive displays the concert hopes to promote ECOED’s activities and encourage people to get involved.

The Concert has great news for those wanting to bring the whole family along with a colouring competition for kids and of course the cafe will be open for coffee and cake.

Tickets are available for purchase from The Kitchen Table Café.

Every ticket purchased puts you and your family in the draw for an interactive Kiwi experience and a framed portrait for you to remember.
