Christchurch Airport in the pink

Christchurch Airport is lit pink this month.

It is showing its support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, joining 18 other Kiwi landmarks and more than 200 other iconic or historic structures around the world, as part of the Global Illuminations initiative.

Christchurch Airport CEO Jim Boult says this is the third year the airport has gone pink to support the cause.

“This airport is the only one in the country which has the special lighting panels on the outside, so we often light up to support a charity or special visitor,” says Mr Boult.  “Going pink for the month of October reminds our staff and our visitors of the Breast Cancer Awareness activities and hopefully might even save someone’s life.

“Among the 6000 people working on the campus every day, there are many people who know and are supporting someone special who has or has had breast cancer. It’s one way we can honour them and the person they’re supporting.”

Christchurch Airport will also host charity collectors in the terminal on Friday October 11.  Funds raised through the NZBCF’s Pink Ribbon Street Appeal (October 11-12) and through community fundraising events will go toward research into new targeted treatments, life-saving awareness and education programmes, alongside support for women going through breast cancer.
