New names and corrections to Kioreroa memorial
Adding new names and correcting some of the existing information on the new memorial are part of the on-going restoration of the previously abandoned cemetery.
“As we continue our commitment to the historic cemeteries of our District we find that as new information comes to light changes need to be made to our records and sometimes to our memorials,” said WDC Cemetery Manager Helen Cairns.
“We are now in a position to update some of the information regarding those buried in this site and we are always happy to receive new information and make corrections requested by the community.
“Another twelve names that are either additions or corrections have been collected for us to add those on Kioreroa Cemetery memorial,” Miss Cairns said.
“To ensure that we have the most accurate information possible, and that those we remember are memorialised accurately we encourage people to let us know if they have any further information or corrections to be made," she said.
Other work completed at the cemetery in recent months includes more planting and a sign made from the timber felled during the restoration.
