Hurstmere Green sweeps up at awards
The rejuvenated Hurstmere Green in Takapuna has won a prestigious accolade at the 2013 Auckland Architecture Awards.
Sills Van Bohemen Architects were contracted to redesign the new public space and have received the award in the Planning and Urban Design category.
It reopened in December 2012 after extensive redevelopment to better link Hurstmere Road to Takapuna Beach and give locals a public space they could be proud of.
The award is the fourth accolade the project has received this month. Contractors Nauhria Precast, Kalmar Construction and Sills Van Bohemen also won three prizes at the New Zealand Concrete Society Awards on 4 October, including the supreme award.
Auckland Council’s manager of city transformation projects, John Dunshea, says the accolades are a great recognition of the hard work by staff and contractors to see Hurstmere Green become a popular public space.
“It is fantastic to see Hurstmere Green celebrated as an outstanding landscape design project. Congratulations to everyone who has worked so hard on turning the area into such a welcoming space.”
Takapuna is identified as a metropolitan centre in the Auckland Plan and the redevelopment of Hurstmere Green is a key project in the area’s transformation.
