Tyndall Glacier helicopter accident
Tyndall Glacier helicopter accident
The two AS350 Squirrel helicopters damaged in yesterday’s landing accident on the Tyndall Glacier have been removed to storage in Wanaka as under-slung helicopter loads following a site inspection by two Transport Accident Investigation Commission investigators this afternoon.
The investigation and recovery work was helped by good weather conditions. This evening and tomorrow the investigators hope to interview some of the passengers involved. Tomorrow they will be gathering more detailed information about the accident flight and aircraft, and interviewing company representatives including the pilot of the helicopter apparently clipped on the ground. The flying pilot will be interviewed when his condition allows.
The team expect to be in the area until Thursday, when a further inspection of the wreckage in Wanaka may be made.
