Registrations Now Open for AMI Round the Bays 2014

The iconic AMI Round the Bays is back for 2014 with a brand new 10km to add to the popular 6.5km run/walk and Lenco Half Marathon, all of which take advantage of the beautiful Wellington inner city harbour.

The event, organised by Sport Wellington, a Regional Sports Trust which promotes and supports sport and recreation in the Wellington region, has just opened registrations online for the 2014 event at amiroundthebays.co.nz. The First Bite promotion, launched at 12 noon on opening day, November 1st 2013, reached 500 within the first 60 minutes and targeted 1000 within only a matter of hours, putting into motion what the AMI RTB team believes will be a record sell out for the third consecutive year.

The big day, set for Sunday 23 February 2014, is supported for the third year running by AMI Insurance who are proud to continue their ongoing involvement. Snapper is gratefully welcomed this year as the naming rights sponsor for the newest addition to the event, the 10km run and walk option. Back once again is official charity partner, Malaghan Institute of Medical Research, New Zealand’s leading independent medical research facility, giving participants the opportunity to join the ‘Run for Research’ when they enter and fundraise to support an important Wellington based charity.

2013 saw a record number of over 13,500 participants with this year’s aim for 14,000 as new and returning participants can now take part in the addition of the Snapper 10km. Running alongside the Lenco Half Marathon, the great addition of the Snapper 10km delivers a bigger challenge than the fun run, while providing participants with a taste of the Half Marathon which remains a flat, fast and well measured course by Athletics Wellington.

All three distance options start at Frank Kitts Park and finish at Kilbirnie Park for a fun-filled festival atmosphere complete with live music, food & BBQs, spot prizes and plenty of fun activities for the whole family. Corporate teams are invited to hire their own marquees to relax and unwind after their success of crossing the finish line.

Until the crowd gathers at the start line on February 23, 2014 participants can ‘workout for free’ at Les Mills gyms and work towards their own personal best finish time or simply get ready for the great community event that is more than just a running race.
