Publisher Oceanbooks holds pre-Christmas book event
Independent publisher Oceanbooks is delighted to announce the launch of ten new titles at its November 8, 2013 book event.
This is the fourth biannual book event held since the Tauranga-based publishing house was founded in 2011.
Oceanbooks Board Chairman Ian Clarke says the cooperative was launched by a group of local writers concerned by the closure of the New Zealand branches of a number of commercial publishers. “The publishing industry has been in a well-publicised state of upheaval,” he adds.
“Word spread quickly about our venture ‘by writers and for writers,’ and we now have shareholders and authors around New Zealand, as well as Canada, Mexico and Vanuatu.
“Regardless of where they live, all our writers have a connection with this country and Oceanbooks is a truly homegrown enterprise.”
Mr Clarke says Oceanbooks “delightfully varied and growing” catalogue of books includes fiction and non-fiction in a variety of genre. We also have books for children and young adults.
Books will be for sale at the November 8 event and they make perfect Christmas presents. Local businessman and author Maurice O’Reilly will introduce the evening.
Mr Clarke says that Oceanbooks has been lucky to have him on board as a consultant and mentor, providing some invaluable business and other input. Some authors will also briefly speak about their work.
Mr Clarke says that selling books is not the main purpose of the evening. “It’s an opportunity for readers and writers to meet one another, so that readers can get to know the stories behind the ones the writers are telling.”
Oceanbooks extends a warm welcome to anyone interested in books who’d like to meet some local authors, to attend: Nautilus restaurant Sulphur Point Tauranga Between 5 and 7 pm - Friday 8 November, 2013.
The bar will be open and meals will be available after the event.
