Christchurch Casino New Zealand Trotting Cup Day tomorrow

History could be made at Addington Raceway tomorrow during the running of the feature race, the prestigious Christchurch Casino New Zealand Trotting Cup.

Terror to Love, who has won the race the last two years, is aiming for three in a row and if he wins on Tuesday he will become just the third horse in history to achieve this milestone.

Top Canterbury harness racing driver Ricky May could also earn a place in the record books if he makes his seventh New Zealand Trotting Cup win and beats Cecil Devine’s long-standing record.

At stake is $650,000 in prize money – a $50,000 increase on last year – making the Christchurch Casino New Zealand Trotting Cup the richest standing start harness race in Australasia.

A crowd of up to 25,000 people is expected at Addington for the feature race and the Christchurch City Council is reminding punters heading to the raceway that a temporary alcohol ban will be in place in and around Addington Raceway and Events Centre from 9am to 10pm tomorrow.

The ban applies to the area bounded by Blenheim Road, Moorhouse Avenue, Lincoln Road, Wrights Road and Matipo St and will be enforced by police.

Christchurch City Council Events Development Manager, Richard Attwood says the Council wants to promote a responsible attitude to drinking during New Zealand Cup and Show Week.

“The temporary liquor ban is one of a wide range of initiatives from Addington Raceway designed to ensure a safe and happy festival environment,” he says.
