Working together for Future Christchurch/Greater Canterbury

The NZ Transport Agency is at the Canterbury A & P Show this week talking to visitors about how it's working together with other agencies and the private sector to drive the recovery and rebuild of Greater Christchurch.

With the Christchurch Roads of National Significance projects, the Transport Agency is not only working to deliver the government's commitment to fund the rebuild of Christchurch's earthquake-damaged roads but also connecting communities and helping to get goods to market.

"We're working with our partners to plan, develop and rebuild infrastructure and we've fast-tracked our highways projects," says the Transport Agency's Canterbury/West Coast Highway Manager Colin Knaggs.

"New communities are being built throughout the Greater Christchurch area and the Transport Agency is working with its partners to connect these communities with a sustainable transport network, making it easier and safer to get everyone to where they live, work and play.

"These new communities bring new business opportunities and employment. The Transport Agency's new roads of national significance will help get goods to local and export markets more cost effectively - and fresher - as well as making local roads safer and more accessible for pedestrians and cyclists."

Mr Knaggs encourages everyone to visit the Show and the Future Christchurch Pavilion to check on progress and talk to those involved in the rebuild.
