Hutt City congratulates Dr Richard Furneaux on science win
Dr Richard Furneaux has won the Science and Technology category of the 2013 Wellingtonian of the Year Awards, which were announced last night.
Hutt City Council is proud sponsors of the category as part of its Technology Valley campaign.
Dr Furneaux is renowned globally for his contribution to carbohydrate chemistry, looking at the creation of potent drug candidates for cancer and severe inflammatory illnesses and much else besides.
Mayor Ray Wallace said, “We are very proud to help recognise and support Dr Furneaux in the pioneering work he is doing.
“Hutt City is at the leading edge of science and technology in New Zealand with a significant infrastructure and talented individuals who are making an international impact.
“We’ve made a long-term commitment to science and technology and supporting our region’s best and brightest, like Dr Furneaux, is part of that.”
2013 is the sixth year in a row that Hutt City Council has sponsored the Science and Technology category of the Wellingtonian of the Year Awards.
