New Zealand Cup and Show Week fun continues

New Zealand Cup and Show Week festival fun continues today with the Canterbury A&P Show and greyhound racing at Addington Raceway.

Christchurch City Council Events Development Manager, Richard Attwood is delighted so many people are taking time out this week to celebrate New Zealand’s largest Spring festival.

He says the Canterbury A&P Show promises lots more family fun, with further fine weather forecast for the next two days.

“This year’s show features around 7000 livestock, 600 trade exhibitors, feature marquees and pavilions, as well as top entertainment and attractions,” Mr Attwood says.

Public parking during the Canterbury A&P Show is free. A free shuttle bus runs from the public car park to the Lake Turnstile entrance. The Show is open from 8.00am to 5.30pm today and tomorrow.

This evening the top greyhounds in the country will be racing in the $100,000 Buy Sell & Exchange New Zealand Cup, making it the richest greyhound race in the country.

Dave and Jean Fahey’s Canterbury kennels have dominated the New Zealand Cup over recent seasons, training five of the last seven winners. But they face stiff competition this year from leading trainer John McInerney who is looking to his speed machine Raw Energy to secure him victory.

While the New Zealand Cup is the feature event of the night, there will be huge interest in the $30,000 Super Pets Galaxy Sprint. Only the fastest compete in this 295 metre dash which pits the best sprinters in the country against each other in a mad sprint to the finish line.
