Event Celebrates the NZ Outdoors
MEDIA RELEASE: Event Celebrates the NZ Outdoors
Writing about the New Zealand outdoors is to be celebrated at the Tararua Tramping Club Hall this November. A launch event hosted by outdoors website upcountry.co.nz will feature readings by Lawrence Patchett, Pat White and even an old fashioned slide show.
Up Country co-founder, Bill Nelson, said anyone with an interest in writing or the outdoors was welcome.
“This is a chance to celebrate the launch of the Up Country website earlier this year, have a beer or two in the company of other armchair adventurers and hear some great work by contemporary New Zealand writers.”
For other 30 years, Pat White has been writing memoir and essay pieces as well as poetry that explores New Zealanders’ relationships with nature. The bush, sea and mountains were major characters in Lawrence Patchett’s recent award winning, I Got His Blood on Me, a collection of yarns about New Zealand’s frontier past.
“As well as readings, we’ll have a running slide show of vintage images of the New Zealand outdoors. And we plan to display the kayak Up Country contributor Thom Gower built based on the 40 year old plans and parts he found in his attic.” “Up Country was created to share Kiwi’s writing about the outdoors and their passion for getting out and enjoying it. We hope this party will help to do this beyond the screen.”
The Up Country launch party starts at 7pm on Saturday 30 November at the Tararua Tramping Club Hall, 4 Moncrieff Street, Mount Victoria, Wellington.
Media are welcome to attend.
