Fundraising lunch for typhoon Haiyan at the Migrant Centre
A fundraising lunch will be held on Monday 2 December from 12- 1pm at the Whangarei Migrant Centre, organised by Women’s International Newcomers Social Group (WINGS), Settlement Support and the Whangarei Migrant Centre.
The local Filipino community will provide lunch and snacks. All donations are for the victims of typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines and will go directly to the New Zealand Red Cross.
“Knowing some members in the Filipino community we feel a strong connection and want to support them at this difficult time. Many of them have family and friends in the affected areas,” says WINGS spokesperson Liane Blair.
“This is a chance for our WINGS and Migrant Centre members, and the wider community to help by coming to the fundraiser and donating to the Red Cross,”
“Members of the Filipino community will be making traditional Philippine food for the lunch. It is a unique opportunity to taste some traditional Asian food as well as raise money. Bring your workmates, family members and friends, and show your support by coming to this event and please give generously, ” Ms Blair says.
Everyone is welcome. For catering purposes please contact the Migrant Centre to let them know if you can attend.
