Indicators point to a busy peak tourism season in Whangarei

Data released today showing ongoing international holiday arrival growth to New Zealand is also good news for Whangarei, says Whangarei District Council Tourism Manager Paul Davis.

Statistics New Zealand said today that arrivals to New Zealand ‘soared’ to a new November record, up by 15,200 arrivals on 2012 to reach 251,100 for the month. The November year ended growth rate for international arrivals is now running at 8%.

“The best news for Whangarei is that, after a couple of tough years for the tourism sector here, there has been a return to arrival growth from those countries whose nationals find their way to Whangarei. There is now consistent strong growth out of Australia the United States and Germany, whose visitors take longer holidays and have the time and interest in visiting Whangarei.

“And, taking account of the current strong state of the New Zealand economy and the likelihood more New Zealanders will take holidays this year, things are looking good for a busy peak tourism season”, said Mr Davis.
