Lake Omapere statement 2
Lake Omapere, Resource Management Unit (RMU) Statement of position.
8th Sept 2014.
It appears the water leaving
the Outlet of Lake Omapere is some-what clouded.
On
Wednesday 3rd Sept The lake Omapere RMU suspended its
support to remove Alligator Weed from the outlet of lake
Omapere.
Unfortunately a misunderstanding that Northland Regional Council (NRC) would support Farmer Doug Small with costs, and also support the Lake Omapere Trust on Compliance and liability matters gave reasoning for the Lake Omapere RMU to suspend there approval to clear the Alligator Weed from the outlet.
The Lake Omapere RMU called an urgent meeting with farmer Doug Small and NRC representatives to clarify matters on Friday morning in Kaikohe.
NRC implied a letter sent by Mr Small to NRC had political implications, in effect disengaging any support if any, were available to Mr Small with his unavoidable situation. This raised concerns for the Lake Omapere RMU considering impacts of compliance and liability of the Lake and down stream concerns.
A public meeting organized by the Lake Omapere
RMU,at the Horeke community hall on Wednesday 10th Sept 2014
at 6pm where Mr Small, supported by NRC, will present the
proposal of clearing the Alligator weed from the
Outlet.
We encourage all down stream users to
attend.
The Lake Omapere RMU will not withdraw its
suspension until issues of compliance and liability are
resolved.
