Wilding pines field day
Wilding pines field day
The Otago Regional Council
(ORC) is holding a field day on wilding pines (wildings) in
Naseby next week.
Anyone can attend this free public event which starts at the Naseby Hall at 1.30pm on Thursday 30 October, and then moves to a nearby property for a control demonstration.
ORC director environmental monitoring and operations Jeff Donaldson said the council is keen to make landowners more aware of the damage wildings can cause and how to control them.
“Wildings are present in many parts of Otago. They can survive from coastal areas to the high country, and their seeds are easily spread.”
“Contorta is a pest in the Otago Pest Strategy, and this field day is a great opportunity for land owners to learn how to limit the impact of this and other species of pine,” Mr Donaldson said.
